Hopewell beats Matoaca 66-63 to stay undefeated.

The Hopewell Blue Devils survived a strong challenge from the Matoaca Warriors Tuesday at Hopewell. The Blue Devils came out on top 66-63 and moved their record to 15-0 in the process.

Hopewell led by double digits early in the first half before a late Matoaca run brought the Warriors within two at halftime. In the second half, Hopewell outrebounded Matoaca, which went cold at the most inopportune time. The Warriors’ leading scorer Devin Morgan fouled out with less than two minutes to go, and that spelled doom for Matoaca.

Hopewell Head Coach Robbie St. John: “I thought we had a lot of contribution off the bench. We were in foul trouble early. We let them back in the game. They had all the momentum going into the second half. For us to come out with a win I thought was pretty special.”
