After Six Amazing Years, 8News Anchor Amie McLain Leaves Us To Follow Her Dream

We have some bittersweet news to share with our 8News viewers: Good Morning Richmond anchor Amie McLain is leaving us after six amazing years. She is moving on to pursue her passion in ministry in the Richmond area.

Amie will serve as Executive Media Director at her church, Mt. Gilead Full Gospel International Ministries. This opportunity will allow her more time to devote to her faith, church and missionary trips. It’s also paving the way for Amie and her husband to open their own church one day.

Amie joined WRIC in 2009 and has worked tirelessly as a reporter, morning anchor and ambassador for the station in the community.

Her last day is Friday, January 16. Amie will then head to India on a missionary trip with her church a few days later.

Amie’s replacement is no stranger to the station or the morning team. Amanda Malkowski will take over anchor duties on Good Morning Richmond and #8NewsAt9.

Amanda brings energy, personality, a positive attitude and a passion for news – just what you need in the morning. Amanda has been with us for a little under a year and comes to Richmond from Lansing, Michigan, where she was a reporter and anchor at WILX. Amanda grew up in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and graduated from Indiana University with a degree in Journalism with a concentration in Political Science.

We will miss Amie so much, but we’re also beyond excited for Amie to have this opportunity. She is a bright spot to our morning — but, she won’t be far and says she’ll still join us in our weekly Friday woop-woop on Good Morning Richmond.

  1. Amie, I’m so excited for your new job position with your church and may God bless you and your husband as you continue to serve Him. I will miss you for sure, you and Morgan are my favorite “team” but I’m sure it will all work out for the best. I wonder if Amanda will coordinate with Morgan’s outfits in the morning! We’ll wait and see! I met you years ago as my friend and I visited the set and you are a precious woman of God. I look forward to hearing about your future accomplishments for the Kingdom! Blessings to you, Janet Wiltshire

  2. Thank you Amie for 6 great years of newscasting! You were the reason that I started watching Ch.8 morning news. I will not be able to watch the morning news without you co-anchoring. However, you have been called to serve God’s people which is a far more rewarding purpose of which “few” are anointed to do. I know that God will excel you and your husband in all that you are called to do! Congratulations to you and your husband on your “Kingdom” promotion! The blessings of God to you both.
    Congrats to Amanda Malkowski!
    Kindest regards,
    Kristonta Greene
