Local Law Enforcement Steps In In To Save Child’s Christmas After He Loses Mom and Dad

HENRICO, Va. (WRIC) — A fundraiser is underway for a local three-year-old who lost his mother two years ago to a car accident, and whose father passed away just last week.

Area law enforcement agencies are stepping up to make sure Tommy Oppermann has a Merry Christmas.tommy and family

The family says they are still grieving the loss of his mother, who died in a car accident two years ago. Tommy was in that car with his mother the day she passed away but thankfully, Tommy survived.

Tommy’s father, Erik Opperman passed away unexpectedly last week in his sleep. A cause of death is still being determined.

The Henrico Police Department is collecting money to try and help Tommy and his family get back on their feet.

An online crowd funding site has also been set up. That has collected almost $5,000.

Tommy’s family says they are thankful for the outpouring of support.

“My heart breaks for him though, no mom no dad, he should have his parents,” said Tommy’s aunt, Gretchen Miller.

Tommy’s aunt is stepping in and will likely adopt him.

You can also donate directly to the Henrico Police Foundation, just let them know it’s for Tommy.
