Ryan Aprea was born three and a half months premature and spent the first seven months of his life in a hospital. By the time he finally got to go home, he was diagnosed as profoundly deaf.
Over a year later, Ryan got a cochlear implant, which makes him able to hear.
The sweet moment Ryan heard his mother’s voice the first time was captured on video and is now going viral.
Ryan’s mom, Jennifer Aprea from California, uploaded the video through her cloth diaper cleaner company, Spray Pal. According to the company’s website, the proceeds go toward Ryan’s medical bills.
The company’s Facebook page says that the family tried hearing aids on Ryan, but to no avail. Jennifer told Storyful that Ryan was an ideal candidate for the cochlear implant, so they got the procedure as soon as possible.
