L.C. Bird Wins Third Consecutive State Title

L.C. Bird trailed 13-0 in the second quarter to Tuscarora of Loudon County, but rallied the rest of the game to pull out their third consecutive state championship 22-19 over the Huskies.

Stephen Mines had two rushing touchdowns. Jalen Elliott had the game winning touchdown pass to Weymond Pate for 31 yards in the fourth quarter.

Daniel Smith of Tuscarora lost the football on 4th down with just over a minute to go in the game, but Dijuane Dorsey was able to break up a deep pass to seal it for the Skyhawks.

It’s the eighth time in VHSL history that a high school football team has won back to back to back titles.
