Reporter/Video Journalist

WRIC 8News is looking for a Reporter/Video Journalist who is passionate about great storytelling. The ideal candidate must be an aggressive reporter with high journalistic standards. Must be a strong writer with a great eye, creative editing skills and understand the value of pictures and natural sound. Must be able to work independently and meet deadlines under pressure. Newsroom Assistant

WRIC 8News is looking for someone who is organized, enthusiastic and passionate about news. The ideal candidate must be willing to do it all in the newsroom. This person must display creativity, attention to detail, and understand the value of compelling video and sound. This person will assist on the assignment desk: monitoring scanners, answering phone calls, coordinating logistics, dispatching crews and writing for our digital platforms. Graphics Designer

WRIC is seeking a creative, motivated, team first motion graphics designer to create visually compelling graphics for daily local news programs, sales projects, promotions, print, web/digital and station events. This motion graphic design position will work closely with the Creative Services Director, other Graphic Artists, Promotion, Production and Sales staff to visualize and execute concepts for all station projects. This position also interacts with Newscast Management, Producers and Directors to successfully create designs to help the storytelling process. As part of the WRIC team you will be required to maintain and advance the graphic look of the station, you will also manage all graphics and related files. The ideal candidate will be a team player, excellent communicator and be flexible to work some holidays and off hours when needed. Job Requirements: Qualifications: Education: Bachelor’s degree in Design/Animation or equivalent training and/or experience. Experience: Two to three years related experience preferred. You must have an exceptional reel, showcasing your versatility and scope of style, design and creativity. If creating cutting edge graphics is what you live for then we want to hear from you. Attention to detail is a must, ability to quickly develop a creative solution for daily news and promotion projects and you must have a strong ability to take advantage of the tools at your fingertips. Technical Media Operator (Part-time)

Technical Media Operator (Part-time- 26 hours/week-weekend) The ideal candidate will be familiar with Yamaha Audio consoles, Ross OverDrive, Crispin Rapid PlayX, and television station operations within FCC Regulations. Our TMOs perform a variety of tasks from Audio Operation, to Ross OverDrive operation for newscasts, to Master Control functions including satellite receiver operations, and commercial and program delivery. News Producer

WRIC-TV8 News is looking for an aggressive, innovative and creative News Producer to help take our product to the next level. The top candidate is an excellent writer who has a passion for news, solid editorial judgment and the ability to handle breaking news and weather. Digital Content Manager

WRIC 8News is looking for an internet-savvy journalist to be our next Digital Content Manager. The ideal candidate must be a news junkie with high journalistic standards and sound news judgment. This person understands how people utilize social media to find news and information that’s important to them. This position will focus on development and management of the site, as well as oversee all content. The DCM will supervise the social media efforts of the WRIC News Department, which requires focused leadership that ensures all staff members are using social media tools effectively. Serve as site administrator working closely with Media General digital media when necessary. The goal is to create a website that effectively drives traffic and audience engagement while providing a positive user-experience. This position will work closely with the Director Digital Sales to help build content engagement and revenue driven opportunities. Candidate must be able to work knowledgeably and effectively with reporters, producers, and photographers. Strong collaborative and problem-solving skills are mandatory. Must be able to coach staff. 2-4 years of newsroom experience (television, print or digital) required. Other required skills/knowledge: WordPress, Microsoft Office Suite (especially Word and PowerPoint), working knowledge of HTML, Flash and Photoshop, excellent internet research and usage skills, and general digital savvy. Previous experience with digital video, blogging, and social aggregate/monitoring tools (TweetDeck, Social News Desk, HootSuite, etc.) is highly desired. Internship Opportunities

We only offer internships to college students who need the internship for a grade or course.

The following is needed for internship consideration:
–One-page paper, double-spaced explaining why the student wants this internship and what they hope to learn. Include the department/career of interest such as news (producing, photography, reporting), production, sports, graphics, weather; and specify the semester needed (Fall, Spring or Summer).
–Confirmation email from an advisor, dean or registrar’s office saying the internship is needed for the student’s grade/course.  Include how many credit hours are needed (This varies with each student and school).
**Without all three documents, student will not be considered for an internship**
