Reporter/Video Journalist

WRIC 8News is looking for a Reporter/Video Journalist who is passionate about great storytelling. The ideal candidate must be an aggressive reporter with high journalistic standards. Must be a strong writer with a great eye, creative editing skills and understand the value of pictures and natural sound. Must be able to work independently and meet deadlines under pressure. Must be a good communicator and work well with others. The successful candidate must be able to master Edius editing system and shooting on Panasonic P2. Executive Producer

WRIC 8News is looking for a Morning Executive Producer who is a leader, an innovator and a motivator. The perfect candidate will supervise the production, writing and execution of daily newscasts with a heavy focus on showcasing and storytelling. This person is a big picture thinker with strong news judgment and great ideas. The top candidate is always thinking about how we can be different and pushing for excellence on all platforms (television, online and mobile). Proficient in writing conversational broadcast news copy under deadline. Oversee story selection and able to approve and copy edit scripts, teases and graphics. Execute a winning breaking news and weather strategy. The successful candidate has a passion for news, excellent people skills and the ability to get co-workers excited about today’s challenge. Must be able to manage multiple projects simultaneously and strong organization skills. A minimum of 5 years newsroom experience is preferred. Motion Graphics Designer

WRIC 8News is looking for a skilled and visionary motion graphic artist to lead the look of 8News and its associated productions on Richmond, Virginia’s ABC station. Motivation, enthusiasm and creativity are expected. Minimum 3 years’ experience required as a designer for television or production house graphics as well as proven professional abilities in Adobe Creative Suite, primarily After Effects, Photoshop and Illustrator. The successful candidate will produce motion and still graphics for broadcast, print and web use. Additional skills in Premiere and/or some knowledge of C4D, Chyron, web/app graphic design preferred. Internship Opportunities
We only offer internships to college students who need the internship for a grade or course.

*We are no longer accepting Fall 2015 internship applications.*
Deadline for Fall internships: July 10th.
Deadline for Spring internships: November 28th.
Deadline for Summer internships: April 4th.
The following is needed for internship consideration:
–One-page paper, double-spaced explaining why the student wants this internship and what they hope to learn.  Include the department/career of interest such as news (producing, photography, reporting), production, sports, graphics, weather; and specify the semester needed (Fall, Spring or Summer).
–Confirmation email from an advisor, dean or registrar’s office saying the internship is needed for the student’s grade/course.  Include how many credit hours are needed.  (This varies with each student and school.)
**Without all three documents, student will not be considered for an internship**
