WRIC, Media General’s ABC affiliate in Richmond, VA has an immediate opening for a Sales Assistant to provide back-up for Account Managers and Sales Managers. The position is also responsible for assistance in the preparation of client presentations and avail proposals; and, input, management and maintenance of Sales Orders. Direct contact with agency personnel and clients on all assigned accounts. Work directly with traffic department to coordinate scheduling of advertisers. Focused on meeting client and station needs.
Excellent telephone and verbal communication skills. Accuracy and attention to detail critical. Strong administrative, organizational and problem-solving skills necessary. Sense of urgency, ability to handle pressure and prioritize multiple tasks. Must be a self-starter who willingly accepts direction. Mathematical aptitude and knowledge of Nielsen Audience Measurements a plus. Computer proficiency with computer systems word processing and spreadsheet applications essential. Must be flexible and be willing to work overtime. Able to handle multiple tasks concurrently and consistently meet deadlines. Ability to work cooperatively with co-workers; must be a team player.
Position Requirements:One to two years of Sales/Traffic experience in a broadcast station, rep firm or ad agency or BS/BA degree preferred. Excellent telephone and verbal communications skills. WRIC 8News is looking for a News Photojournalist/Editor who is organized, enthusiastic and passionate about great storytelling. The ideal candidate must display creativity, attention to detail, and understand the value of capturing compelling video and sound. Must be able to edit pictures to words and tell a story. No wallpaper video. Must be able to make quick decisions under pressure and meet deadlines. Communicate effectively with the public and co-workers. The successful candidate must be able to master Edius editing system and shooting on Panasonic P2. Be willing to work overtime and work flexible shifts. A minimum of 2 years experience is required. WRIC 8News is looking for an energetic meteorologist who embraces the concept of hyper-local forecasts and storm tracking. We take weather seriously and so should you. Candidates must be able to connect to viewers on television and all digital platforms. The ideal candidate will be required to report as well. Must be a strong writer with a great eye, creative editing skills and understand the value of pictures and natural sound. Must be a good communicator and work well with others. Technical Media Operator (Part-time- 26 hours/week-weekend) The ideal candidate will be familiar with Yamaha Audio consoles, Ross OverDrive, Crispin Rapid PlayX, and television station operations within FCC Regulations. Our TMOs perform a variety of tasks from Audio Operation, to Ross OverDrive operation for newscasts, to Master Control functions including satellite receiver operations, and commercial and program delivery. The following is needed for internship consideration:
–One-page paper, double-spaced explaining why the student wants this internship and what they hope to learn. Include the department/career of interest such as news (producing, photography, reporting), production, sports, graphics, weather; and specify the semester needed (Fall, Spring or Summer).
–Confirmation email from an advisor, dean or registrar’s office saying the internship is needed for the student’s grade/course. Include how many credit hours are needed (This varies with each student and school).
