AUSTIN, Tx. (KVUE | ABC) – Martha Dreher had been watching a man’s twin boys and his pre-teen daughters for several months. Now, she’s at the Travis County Jail after she turned herself in for arson.
“It was definitely a vendetta against the two girls,” said Glenn Williams, father and owner of the home that was burned by 57-year-old Martha Carolyn Dreher.
According to Austin Fire Investigators, it was the girl’s babysitter that lit the fire.
She denies setting the fired but admitted to investigators that she no longer wanted to work for Glenn or watch his daughters.
“She said that it was horrible, that my oldest had been very disrespectful to her and she didn’t think it was a good match,” said Williams.
The father was out of town with his daughters on the night of August 10th while Dreher was watching his 5-year old twin boys at their mother’s house.
Dreher told the boys she wanted to stop by Glenn’s house to grab popcorn. A camera outside the Williams’ home captured the babysitter going into the home while the boys were in the car.
Less than 20 minutes later, flames were visible on camera.
Hours later, Williams’ teenage son came home to discover the damage.
“A second bedroom had been set on fire also,” explained Williams. “And he noticed everything
smelled like some sort of igniter fluid that was used.”
Williams is now working on repairing the rooms as crews continue to clean up the mess left behind by the fire but he is thankful that his daughters and twin boys are safe.
