Family and friends gathered Tuesday night to mourn the death of two-year-old O’ustin Spratley outside his home after his death last week.
Spratley’s family, which come form several different states, said that they are relying on their faith to get them through this difficult loss.
“Honestly, it’s just like if we could have been there to stop the situation or even know the situation was going on but all we can do we know he is heaven he didn’t do anything to anybody he’s just a little kid,” said cousin Jimmy Smith.
Spratley was pronounced dead last week and his cause of death was determined to be blunt force trauma to the abdomen. According to police, 43-year-old Kevin Webb was babysitting the child when the incident occurred.
The toddler was taken to the hospital with bruises and a broke rib. He later died from his injuries.
As they gather tonight, they hope to be able to celebrate the young life of Spratley that was taken far too early.
The candlelight vigil will take place at Spratley’s home in the 1400 block of Oakhurst Lane in Richmond. Those attending are encouraged to bring a candle.
