The nonprofit Henrico CASA-which stands for Henrico County Court Appointed Special Advocates-desperately needs volunteers. Now, they’re reaching out to the community for assistance.
Volunteers represent abused and neglected children’s best interests during juvenile court proceedings.
“The Henrico CASA program recruits, trains, and supervises volunteers dedicated to representing the needs of abused and neglected children, children in juvenile dependency proceedings, and children in need of services or supervision,” reads Henrico CASA’s mission, found on its website. “The volunteers promote safe permanent homes for all children and seek to educate the community concerning the needs of abused and neglected children.”
These days unfortunately there are more and more of these cases: socials services in the region has seen an increase and the cases are more harrowing.
Tonight at 5, 8News Anchor Kerri O’Brien talks to the executive director of Henrico CASA and a volunteer to learn what it entails.
There will be an Information meeting for those that are interested in becoming a CASA on July 29, 2014, from 6:00 – 7:00 p.m. at the CASA office (3001 Hungary Spring Rd., Ste. A, Henrico).
