Space Station Shipment Launched From Virginia

CAPE CANAVERAL, Fla. (AP) – A fresh delivery is on its way to the International Space Station.

Orbital Sciences Corp. launched a cargo ship Sunday from the Virginia coast. Daylight limited visibility, but sky-gazers from North Carolina to New Jersey still had a shot at seeing the rising rocket.

The unmanned capsule, called Cygnus, contains more than 3,000 pounds of supplies, much of it food. Also on board: mini-satellites, science samples and experimental exercise outfits. NASA says the new type of clothing is resistant to bacteria and odor buildup. So the astronauts won’t smell as much during their two hours of daily workout.

Cygnus is due at the 260-mile-high outpost Wednesday.

This is Orbital’s third station shipment. NASA is paying for the service.

Saturday marked the 5,000th day of continuous human habitation in orbit.
