RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) – A murder investigation is underway after a University of Richmond student was found dead Thursday in his home state of New Jersey.
Police say it appears 19-year-old Brendan Tevlin of Livingston, N.J., was targeted before he was apparently shot and killed.
Tevlin had just completed his freshman year at the university.
8News affiliate WABC in New York reports Tevlin was found inside an SUV early Thursday morning in the parking lot of an apartment complex in West Orange, N.J. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
In a statement posted online, University of Richmond President Ed Ayers said the rising sophomore planned to major in business, was active in club sports and made lots of friends during his first year on campus.
“Our deepest sympathies are with Brendan’s family and friends and all who knew him as a member of the University of Richmond campus community,” the statement said.
No arrests have been, and investigators are still searching for a motive.
Anyone with information is being asked to call the tip line for the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office at 1-877-847-7432.
