Dave Brat, the man who upset House Majority Leader Eric Cantor in the Republican Primary held a news conference Thursday.
Brat spoke for about 10 minutes and read from a prepared statement. He did not take questions from the press afterwards but for the first time he shared what he plans to focus on in this campaign.
Brat took time to thank those who helped him in pulling off the primary win, and said this was a campaign that many had ignored but now it is one that he says has captured the nation’s attention.
Brat also introduced his new campaign manager, Amanda Chase who interestingly enough was Eric Cantor’s political director during the 2010 congressional race.
Brat laid out a general idea of issues he plans to focus on, these include a free market system, equal treatment and equal justice under the law, and said that faith in god is essential to the moral fiber of this nation.
“These principles are how we intend to unify the different parts of the Republican Party and I hope unify all people in the 7th District, regardless of party,” Brat said.
Brat is also expected to appear at the Hanover GOP meeting Thursday night at 7 p.m. at Bass Pro Shops in Ashland.
