Disturbing Texts Preceded Chesterfield Murder-Suicide

Friends say the Chesterfield father that killed his family sent out disturbing messages before the tragedy.

Police say Chris Jernigan killed his wife Renotta, her 9-year old daughter Alexis and 2-year old son Seth before taking his own life on father’s day.

The family’s front porch has become a growing memorial. People have been dropping off balloons, cards and flowers for the victims.

Several neighbors were awake and say they heard the gunshots. The Nguyen brothers, who live next door to the family, were among the neighbors who ran to the home to help. They say Renotta was lying in the front yard and the little boy was still inside the home.

“I know that things are rough but they’re going to get better and he said ‘no they won’t. Not with her, hating her is the only way I can breathe on my own. I guess you can say that I love hating her,” says family friend Courtney Winn, reading text messages that were sent before the

Renotta wrote on her husband’s Facebook page saying, “Happy father’s day. You are the best daddy our kids could ever ask for. Thank you for loving these kids more than you love yourself.” He responded, “Thanks.”
