Latest Gun Tested in Brendon Mackey Case Not a Match

Lab results for the latest .40-caliber gun being tested in relation to the 2013 shooting death of 7-year-old Brendon Mackey have confirmed the weapon is not a match.

A total of eight firearms have been tested.

Brendon Mackey, 7, died Friday, July 5 after he was struck by a stray bullet the night of July 4 as he was walked with his family to a fireworks show in Brandermill over the Swift Creek Reservoir. Police believe the shot was fired randomly into the air, likely some distance away from the fireworks celebration. 

Police say they have not had anyone in custody in relation to this case at any point in the investigation, but continue to follow leads.
