A Hanover County man is facing multiple charges following a fatal hit-and-run crash on Interstate 295 South on Thursday night.
Officials say a passenger vehicle had broken down on the right shoulder of I-295 and called a tow truck to remove the vehicle. A rollback wrecker, driven by Jason E. Bailey, 22, of Henrico, arrived to assist the family with their vehicle.
Bailey was standing on the traffic-side of the wrecker when a southbound 2012 Ford Explorer ran off the right side of the interstate. The Ford Explorer struck the wrecker and then Bailey. The Explorer spun around, overturned and crashed into a ditch approximately 50 feet in front of the wrecker.
The driver of the Explorer then fled the scene on foot into the woods towards a nearby subdivision. Based on witness statements, troopers located the subject and took him into custody without incident.
Dwayne Gray Miller Jr., 31, of Mechanicsville, is currently being held at Pamunkey Regional Jail on charges of DUI, refusal to submit to breath/blood sample, involuntary manslaughter, felony hit-and-run and obstruction of justice.
The incident remains under investigation.
