Sharp Elbows In Republican Primaries

RICHMOND, Va. (AP) – Barbara Comstock is enduring sharp elbows from tea party competitors in the Republican primary in the 10th Congressional District that will be decided April 26.

Conservative candidates are also launching sharp attacks against establishment favorites in other primary contests set for June.

The tenor of the primary contests stands in contrast to the unified front presented by state Republican lawmakers as they block Democratic Gov. Terry McAuliffe’s efforts to expand Medicaid eligibility while underscoring the continuing intra-party tensions between the establishment wing of the party and its more conservative factions.

But tea party candidates say voters continue to be unhappy with the establishment wing of the party.
