The Petersburg Bureau of Police is looking for a person of interest in connection to a fatal fire that occurred on Saturday morning. The blaze claimed the lives of four relatives, including a little boy. ABC 8News learned that earlier this month, a protective order was filed and issued against Alexander Hill Jr. by one of the victim’s family members.
On Saturday, April 19, crews were called to a home off of Harding Street. The main fire was extinguished within 10 minutes and by 4:30 a.m., all hot spots were put out. Inside the home, emergency personnel discovered the remains of four bodies. A 2-year-old boy was among the four victims; family members identified the adults to ABC 8News as Pauline Wilkins, Vicki Chavis and Missy Chavis.
The family is distraught over the loss.
“It leaves an empty space in your heart, I will say that much, and especially for an innocent child who didn’t know anything and wasn’t involved in anything at all,” said Vincent Harris, a cousin of the victims.
Alexander Roosevelt Hill Jr. is a person of interest in this investigation. Hill is a 47-year-old black male who is approximately 5 feet 8 inches tall, weighs roughly 190 pounds, and has black hair and distinctive hazel eyes. Hill is currently wanted by Petersburg officials for violating a protective order, providing false information to police and assault.
Earlier this month another family member, Vivian Chavis, filed a protective order against Hill. In the order, Chavis said Hill told her, “I’m going to get you.” She also stated that “This man beat me badly,” and that she wanted him to leave her alone so she can “get on with my life.”
The investigation being conducted by the Petersburg Fire Department is ongoing. The Petersburg Bureau of Police has determined evidence of foul play and the case is being investigated as a homicide. On Tuesday, ABC 8News Reporter Parker Slaybaugh obtained a warrant that says two of the victims had “wounds consistent with puncture wounds.”
Detectives were able to locate Hill’s cell phone. According to the warrant, police recovered a message sent from the phone to witness “J.K” at 3:30 a.m. on April 19, shortly before the fire occurred. The message reads, “Hey Brother. I am here! My destination. Should things go as I have planned I no longer exist. Thats right claim my remains and ensure they are creamated. Get over to my house and remove everything. In my bedroom there is a small dresser that has a blue light on it there is a pair of socks on top as soon as you open it that has 61.00 in it and change.”
Alexander Roosevelt Hill Jr. should be considered armed and dangerous. In addition to Petersburg, Hill has connections to Richmond, Newport News, Virginia Beach and Trinidad.
Petersburg Police and US Marshalls are offering a $5,000 reward for information leading to Hill’s capture. If you see him, contact the Petersburg Bureau of Police at 804-732-422 immediately or call the nearest police department’s 911 number.
For now, the family is hoping Hill is found or will come forward.
“Just continue to pray for our family, continue to pray for the strength and the guidance, that we will just heal from all of this reflect on the memory of all four of our family members.”
