Food Lion Robber Arrested in Chesterfield, May Be Linked to Other Thefts

Richmond Police are investigating whether a man arrested for robbing a Chesterfield County grocery store on Wednesday night could be the same one who robbed a south Richmond ice cream store earlier that day.

Around 8:45 p.m. on March 26, a male suspect entered the Food Lion at 5702 Jefferson Davis Highway and threatened to harm a store clerk if she didn’t give him money from her cash register. When the clerk left her counter to alert other employees to the suspect, he forcibly removed the register drawer and fled.

Chesterfield Police identified the suspect as 38-year-old Timothy John Fagnani, and arrested him on Friday at the Super 8 Motel at 8260 Midlothian Turnpike. He has been charged with one count of robbery.

Shortly before 6 p.m. on Wednesday, the Gelati Celesti at 3004 Stony Point Road in Richmond was robbed in similar fashion; the suspect demanded money from the clerk before struggling with the employee and fleeing with cash from the register. The suspect caught on surveillance tape in this incident matches Fagnani’s description. Richmond Police are investigating to determine if Fagnani could be the man responsible for the Gelati Celesti robbery and several other business thefts in the city.

Anyone with information regarding the Gelati Celesti robbery is asked to contact Metro Richmond Crime Stoppers by calling 804-780-1000 or texting “iTip” followed by the tip to 274637.
