Nick Cannon Dresses in Whiteface to Promote New Album

LOS ANGELES (ABC)Nick Cannon is causing a lot of controversy after dressing up in whiteface to promote his first album in 11 years, “White People Party Music.”

On Instagram, the “America’s Got Talent” host showcased his new look, complete with a grey beanie hat, flannel shirt and acid-washed jeans. He dubbed the look: Connor Smallnut.

“It’s official… I’m White!!!” he wrote as a caption. “#WHITEPEOPLEPARTYMUSIC#Wppm in stores April 1st!!!!!!Dude Go Get It!!!Join The Party!!!! #GoodCredit #DogKissing #BeerPong #FarmersMarkets #FistPumping #CreamCheeseEating #RacialDraft ‘Bro I got drafted!!'”

Immediately, Mariah Carey’s husband, received tons of backlash on social media.

In an effort to defend his look, Cannon later posted a photo of actor Robert Downey Jr. from the film, “Tropic Thunder.” Downey donned blackface to portray the role of Kirk Lazarus in the 2008 comedy.

As a caption, Cannon wrote, “Shout out to @RobertDowneyJr This is one of my favorite characters of all time! Hilarious!!! There is a big difference between Humor and Hatred.”

Still, the TV personality laughed off the backlash on Twitter.

“Damn I didn’t know it was going to be this hard being White! …I’m exhausted with all this ‘privilege’ LOL #WhitePeopleProblems,” he wrote, adding, “‘I think we should have a million white man march and protest @NickCannon album!! Somebody call @rushlimbaugh’ LOL.”

“White People Party Music” hits shelves on April 1.
