Reward Offered for Information on Chesterfield New Year’s Day Attack

CHESTERFIELD (WRIC) – A $5,000 reward is now being offered for information leading to an arrest in a New Year's Day robbery.

Earle Spencer was leaving his family store on Centralia Road in Chesterfield County just after 5 a.m. Jan. 1 when he was nearly beaten to death and robbed.

“It all happened so quickly you didn't have time to think about it,” he says.

Spencer says he had just walked out of the store and was headed to his truck, when he realized he wasn't alone.

“I just got attacked as I got ready to get in my truck and I don't remember the rest of it, I just remember calling the police.”

More than two months later, and roughly 20 doctor's visits, Spencer says more surgeries and doctors appointments are in his future, but his spirits are high.

“On top of my head I had four stitches and on the side of my ear I had six stitches and had two black eyes,” he says. “But I'm doing good. I am doing a lot better.”

Since the attack Spencer has been physically unable to drive, and has relied on family members to take care of the store he loves. He is hoping the $5,000 reward will help bring the person responsible for this crime to justice.

“I just hope they get caught, because I have been through a lot of misery for 60 days. Getting better every day but a slow process.”

But says there is no way he is letting this incident slow him down.

“I am going to try,” he says. “I hope I make a full recovery.”

Police are really asking for your help on this one.

Police confirm that the suspect is believed to have fled the scene headed away from the store on Telstar Drive. They are also asking any customers who may have written a personal check at this store on December 31, the day before the robbery, to please contact police. They say a portion of those checks have not been accounted for.

Anyone with information is asked to call police, that number for Crime Solvers is 748-0660.
