RICHMOND (WRIC)—The Richmond Police Department is investigating a convenience store shooting that sent three people, including a child, to the hospital on Tuesday evening.
The shooting occurred around 7 p.m. on Feb. 18, in the parking lot of the Fine Food convenience store at 4904 Government Road in the city's Fulton neighborhood. The entire 4900 block of Government Road was shut down for hours Tuesday night as a result.
Eyewitnesses say they heard multiple gunshots.
“We heard, like, about five or six gunshots, and then we noticed three, four young guys running by the shop,” said barber Tony Dunaway, who witnessed the incident.
The three victims, two adults and a boy under the age of 10, were all sent to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries and are expected to recover.
Police are unsure of the victims' connection, if any, to the shooter(s).
“We desperately need people to come out and tell us what happened,” said Lieutenant Daniel Minton. “Our youngest victim is a juvenile … people shouldn't stand for that.”
Richmond Police are looking for two young men, possibly even teenagers, who ran away from the scene.
“That's why I try to give the young guys around here a little few dollars to do little things to try to keep them out of trouble … so stuff like this won't happen,” Dunaway said.
Anyone with information pertaining to this incident is asked to contact Crime Stoppers of Metro Richmond at 804-780-1000.
