Shelton Sisters Arraigned on New Charges

Albemarle County sisters, one of whom faces charges in connection with the
death and disappearance of Waynesboro reserve police Captain Kevin Quick
were charged in Louisa County court Tuesday morning.

Shantai Shelton and her sister,
Mersadies, were arrested last week along with their brother, Daniel Mathis. Virginia
State Police charged Mathis and Mersadies Shelton with felony grand larceny for
stealing Quick's 1999 Toyota 4Runner; Shantai Shelton was arrested on an
unrelated charge.

Shantai Shelton was living with a
man named David Sharpe, who resides on the 15000 block of Hopeful Church Road
in Bumpass. In October 2013, she allegedly poisoned him by giving him three glasses
of milk laced with SEROQUEL XR, a drug prescribed to treat bipolar disorder and
schizophrenia. She is also accused of taking his wallet, gun and credit cards.

Shantai Shelton was charged with
poisoning with intent to kill or injure. Following her court appearance on Feb.
11, she is now being held without bond on four charges relating to this
incident. The Commonwealth's Attorney argued that she is a flight risk, as
evidence suggests she was trying to avoid arrest by traveling to Alexandria
with people sources say are known members of the Bloods gang. He also said she
had plans to travel to Montana, where she has ties.

Mersadies Shelton is facing charges
of being a principal in the second degree to the crimes of malicious wounding
and use of firearm during the commission of a felony. On Super Bowl Sunday, Shelton
and Mathis were involved in the malicious wounding of a family at their own
; they later fled to Alexandria.
