(WRIC) – More than two dozen
flights have been canceled at Richmond International Airport.
More than half of the planes were
headed to Atlanta.
Like hundreds of other
unsuspecting travelers, Christopher Raper's flight home to Atlanta was
canceled after snow slammed the south. He was supposed to leave earlier today
and is hoping his second flight will take-off this afternoon as scheduled.
“Everyone knew it was on
the way in so I figured they'd have sand and salt and everything down,” he
says. “They're saying it's going to take off and it's going to actually land.
The problem's going to be in Atlanta because Atlanta's still an icicle.
Betsy Orourke was also
slated to fly on one of the 17 Georgia-bound planes that went on the chopping
block. Three different failed attempts and an hour drive from Newport News
later, she's now Colorado-bound – hopefully.
Her flight out of Richmond
is now delayed.
Richmond Airport officials
say this month takes the cake with flight cancellations. So far they've seen
477 – the most in 6 years.
But travelers are taking
it in stride.
“If you get upset, it just
doesn't do any good.”
