RICHMOND (WRIC)—On Thursday morning, a single-vehicle accident on North Boulevard downed a power line and caused significant backups on I-95 South in the City of Richmond for several hours.
A black pickup truck slammed into a utility pole just off the southbound off-ramp from I-95 South to North Boulevard.
Around 8 a.m. on Jan. 23, traffic on I-95 South was backed up approximately 7 miles at mile marker 78.8, near the Boulevard exit, as a result of the crash. At 12:51 p.m., the Virginia Department of Transportation reported that the backups had cleared.
All lanes of I-95 South remained open; but the southbound side of North Boulevard is closed, as is the Exit 78 off ramp.
The driver, the truck's only passenger, was able to walk away from the accident.
VDOT reminds drivers to use caution, as black ice has blanketed many roads throughout Central Virginia.
