Doctors Say Cold Snap is Preventing Flu from Spreading

HENRICO (WRIC) – Some good
is coming out of this cold snap.

Doctors say it may be
preventing the flu and other viruses from spreading.

Dr. Kenneth Lucas with Patient First says since the cold spell hit, they've seen a noticeable drop in
patients.

“When people stay in, they
may infect the family, but they're not infecting the neighbors, the friends and
everybody else,” he says.

Doctors had been seeing a
lot of upper respiratory problems and the flu was picking up momentum – Virginia
is one of a dozen states with widespread flu activity.

“It'll be interesting to
see what this little cold snap does. It'll be nice if it does interrupt the
flu. It's a bad illness.”

Dr. Lucas recommends
washing your hands, eating healthy and getting enough rest to keep from getting
sick now that more people are venturing outside.
