RICHMOND (WRIC) – After a stabbing at Henderson Middle School Tuesday, 8News did some digging to find out how often something like this happens.
This isn't the first time a student at Henderson Middle School has gotten in trouble for some sort of weapon offense.
Parents picking up their children are still on edge after a female student was stabbed by another child with a pair of scissors yesterday afternoon in the hallway.
“It's very disturbing,” says parent Pamela Wilson. “But seeing that they redistrict these schools, we as parents don't have a say as which schools our child goes to, so I feel the school itself needs to implant more security.”
“Safety for my kids at school,” says Larry Smith “My concern is the safety for the kids. What can we do to prevent this?”
According to the Virginia Department of Education's Student Offender Report, Henderson Middle School tops the list with 36 weapon offenses going back to 2009.
Lucille Brown Middle School has 16 weapon offenses going back to 2009 and Fred Thompson Middle School Had 12 during the 2011-2012 school year.
The other six Richmond City middle schools have not had any recent weapon offenses. But still, these numbers are alarming for parents at Henderson.
“If you send them to school, you send them here to learn and be safe,” says Margaret Cole.
