COLONIAL HEIGHTS (WRIC) – Brazen
thieves steal expensive items from two jewelry stores in Colonial Heights, and
one of the crimes is caught on camera.

One of the crimes happened
inside Southpark Mall and the other at a nearby jewelry store – all within 20
minutes Monday evening. Police hope the
surveillance video will help catch the crooks.

As the store clerk shows
one of two men four pairs of earrings, he then snatches them from the woman's
hands and both men run out of the store.

The crime
happened at Helzberg Diamonds on Southpark Boulevard in Colonial Heights.

Police say the earrings
stolen are valued at $4,000.

The other incident
happened at New York Jewelers inside the nearby South Park Mall.

“They asked to see a
very expensive necklace, once the clerk handed them the necklace, one of the
suspects put on the necklace, they then turn and fled on foot through the mall
and exited at an unknown location,” says Sgt. Rob Ruxer.

Police say the man wearing
a skull cap is responsible for the strong arm robbery at Helzberg Diamonds and
investigators believe a person wearing a hood over his head ran off with the
$10,000 necklace from New York Jewelers.

“Both of these
happened very quickly, blank of an eye,” Ruxer says. “Before the cashiers or
clerk had any time to react to what was going on, they took the items, ran, and
left the scene as soon as possible.”

There was another strong
robbery at a jewelry store Monday night on Midlothian Turnpike in Chesterfield County. Police say the motive and suspect descriptions are very similar.
