ELK GROVE, Calif. (WRIC)—The
California woman dubbed the “Hot Mom” of social media is firing back after
Facebook shut down her account.
Kang made headlines last month when critics said a photo of her in a sports
bra next to her three sons titled “What's Your Excuse?” was fat shaming women.
The 32-year-old mother and former bulimic
is now earning a new reputation for criticizing plus-size women. After seeing a
Daily Mail article featuring plus-size women posing in lingerie, Kang voiced
her opinion on Facebook.
“While I think it's important to
love and accept your body, I was a little peeved because while I feel like it's
ok to love and accept your body, I think that we're normalizing obesity in our
society,” Kang said.
The post went viral. Three hours
later, Facebook removed the post, calling it a “hate speech,” and shut down
“I was pretty shocked,” she said. “They
said that I wasn't complying to community standards and if I continued posting
the way I am that I'm going to be completely removed … I definitely think my
freedom of speech was removed”
Facebook restored Kang's account two
days later, saying a user reported content on her page and it was mistakenly
removed. Her post about obesity however, was not restored.
“It's never my intention to say
someone should look a certain way,” Kang said. “But I am not going to stand
here and say being obese is okay and we should accept that as the norm.”
