FREDERICKSBURG, Va. (WRIC)—Fredericksburg residents experienced quite a scare on Halloween night; an apartment complex was put on lockdown after a shooter barricaded himself inside.
At 8:40 p.m. on Oct. 31, police responded to a report of a shooting at the Commons at Cowan Boulevard. At the scene officers located a 52-year-old man with multiple, non-life-threatening gunshot wounds to his back and shoulder. The victim, who lives in the apartment complex, was transported to Mary Washington Hospital; he is expected to make a full recovery.
The suspected shooter, 50-year-old Michael Allen Bailey, was seen holding a gun and barricaded himself inside his apartment. He also broke several of his own windows.
The Fredericksburg Special Equipment and Tactical Team (SETT) and Crisis Negotiation Team arrived on scene. For nearly six hours neighbors were ordered to either stay in their homes or were evacuated into the training room of nearby police headquarters.
After exchanging gunfire with officers, Bailey eventually surrendered at 2:20 a.m. Friday. He was transported to Mary Washington Hospital with minor injuries.
The victim claims he has known Bailey for approximately 18 months, and that they have had several disputes in the past. Police continue to investigate this incident; stay with 8News for updates.
