Christmas Comes Early in “Virginia’s Legendary Santa Trains”

RICHMOND (WRIC)—In the 1950s, the Commonwealth had its very own version of
the Polar Express; children from throughout Virginia rode with old Saint Nick
on the Santa Train.

Co-authors Donna Strother Deekens and Doug Riddell have teamed up to pen “Virginia's
Legendary Santa Trains,”
a book that explores a magical part of Richmond's
holiday history.

“The Santa Train was something that everyone wanted to ride; it was a very special
excursion that you could take,” Deekens said Wednesday morning on 8News at 9.

Next month, Deekens and Riddell will have book signings at Book People in
Richmond and at the Chesterfield Towne Center Barnes & Noble; they'll also
be at Ashland Train Day on Saturday, Nov. 2.
