Hopewell Animal Shelter Will Not Accept Cats Due to Feline Virus

HOPEWELL – The Hopewell
Animal Shelter will not accept new cats into their facility until it is
decontaminated due to a highly infectious virus that affects cats.

Following veterinary
advice, this “no cat” policy will remain in effect until November 1. The
shelter will continue to house dogs as they are unaffected by the virus.

These steps are a
proactive measure to prevent unnecessary illness and death of
the cats that come into the animal shelter.

“We realize that this may
be an inconvenience for some of our citizens, but we must ensure the safety of the cats that come into
our care,” stated Animal Control Supervisor Amanda Hoak in a press statement.

At this time, surrounding
jurisdictions are not able to house cats from the City of Hopewell.
