RICHMOND (WRIC)—Police are exploring the possibility that a trio of armed robberies—each committed by a group of three black males—are related.

One incident took place on the 1600 block of Grove Avenue in the Fan, near Virginia Commonwealth University's main campus, while another armed robbery occurred along West Franklin Street near Monroe Park.

VCU officials posted an
alert about the crimes on their website, but students say more should have been
done.

VCU tells 8News that the
reason no alerts were sent out to students was because no crime occurred at the
Brandt Rhoads building and the victim was driven away from campus. They add
that no one associated with the school was involved in the crimes. But students
say if something's happening close by, they want to know.

Around 9 p.m. on Sept. 17, a third incident occurred on the Virginia Union University basketball court on the 1500 block of North Lombardy Street. Two male students were robbed at gunpoint, but were unharmed.

One suspect is described as 6 feet tall, weighing about 250 pounds. He wore a green shirt with “LRG” lettering and a green hat; he was possibly armed with a semiautomatic handgun. Another suspect is described as 6 feet tall, weighing about 175 pounds; he wore a gray Rocawear sweatshirt with white lettering and blue jeans.

The suspects were last seen heading east on the 1300 block of West Cary Street. Their vehicle is a silver, older-model Chevrolet four-door sedan, possibly a Malibu or Impala.

Police are conducting an investigation for all three incidents. If you have any information on these crimes, please call Crime Stoppers at 804-780-1000. Stay with 8News for updates.
