HENRICO – After a little over four
years on the job, Henrico superintendent Dr. Patrick Russo is placed on
administrative leave and another board member reportedly calls it quits following a school board meeting Thursday evening.

Dr. Patrick Russo, who has been superintendent since July 2009, was placed on paid leave during the board's monthly work session Thursday afternoon, according to schools spokesperson Andy Jenks. The board had been set to discuss a possible extension of Russo's contract, which expires in 2015.

Jenks did not disclose the reason for the move, calling it a personnel matter.

Sources tell 8News that
school board member Diana Winston up and left mid meeting quitting the board
all together.

A board member tells 8News
that so far they have not received a formal resignation letter from Winston.

“We have a great
school board and a great county system,” says Henrico PTA President Tammy
Gartrell. “We're going to be here to support our children. We're going to be
just fine.”

Gartrell wouldn't
otherwise comment on the changes.

Deputy Superintendent Dr. Patrick Kinlaw will be the acting superintendent in Russo's absence.
