Katie joined 8News in July 2013. She comes to Richmond from 9&10 News in northern Michigan, where she spent 2 and a half years as the weekend meteorologist. Katie graduated from Central Michigan University with a Bachelor of Science in Meteorology in December of 2010. While studying at CMU, she interned at WDIV, the NBC affiliate in Detroit. She also interned with the Doppler 9&10 Weather Team before she was hired on full time. Katie is a member of both the American Meteorological Society and the National Weather Association.
Katie’s interest in weather sparked at a very early age. She was always the kid that asked to turn on the news before school instead of cartoons. Growing up, she was fascinated with the different extremes that weather can bring, especially in Michigan–from huge winter storms, to thunderstorms and tornadoes, to a nice summer day. She was intrigued by the influence that the Great Lakes can have on weather.
Katie is looking forward to the different forecasting challenges that this new area will bring. She is particularly looking forward to covering hurricanes! She is honored to be a new addition to the 8News team.
When not at work, Katie can be found cheering on her favorite sports teams– the Detroit Tigers and Red Wings, along with her alma mater, CMU football (fire up Chips!). She also enjoys rollerblading, cooking, baking, and relaxing with a good book.
