RICHMOND, VA – After years of obstacles and complaints, skateboarders are getting their own skate park.
The course is under construction at Carter Jones Park, where skaters will have a permanent place with at least half a dozen concrete ramps, jumps and rails to practice on without bothering the neighbors.
For years, skaters used a makeshift skate park on the tennis courts. However, after noise and loitering complaints, the city threatened to remove it.
Skaters rallied and compromised with neighbors and city officials agreed to fund a $70,000 concrete course, across from the tennis courts.
The park is set to open for skaters Sunday.
