CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (AP) – A man has pleaded guilty in Albemarle County to participating in a race that resulted in another man's death.
In exchange for the plea, prosecutors dropped a hit-and-run charge against 25-year-old Thomas Appleton. Prosecutors also agreed to not seek more than the one-year minimum sentence.
The Daily Progress (http://bit.ly/12yvxYW) reports that Appleton entered his plea this week in Albemarle Circuit Court.
Prosecutors say Appleton and 18-year-old Samuel Taylor were racing on Sept. 5, 2012, when their vehicles collided. Taylor's car ran off the road, hit a stump, went airborne and crashed into a tree.
