Kayakers Rescued From River Thursday Evening

Richmond, VA—Crews were dispatched Thursday evening to rescue two people stranded on a rock after a sudden storm overturned their kayaks in the James River.

At about 5:20 p.m., rescue crews were dispatched near Riverside Drive and 42nd Street, for reports of 2 people in the James River.

Officials say three people were kayaking on the river, when a sudden storm blew through the area. The strong winds and heavy rain overturned the kayaks, and forced the individuals into the water.

One person swam to shore; the other two were stranded on a rock.

Rescuers were able to recover the people on the rock, and all three are now safe.
