Poll: Gov. McDonnell’s Job Approval Rating Slips

RICHMOND, Va. (AP) – A new Quinnipiac University poll shows Gov. Bob McDonnell's job approval dipping to its lowest point in two years. But it's not because of gifts he and his family took from a political donor and chief executive of a troubled nutritional supplements company.

Quinnipiac's survey of 1,286 registered Virginia voters shows 49 percent approved of his performance. That's down from 53 percent in its February and March polls. McDonnell's approval peaked at 62 percent in October 2011.

But voters seemed little swayed by McDonnell's ties to Star Scientific CEO Jonnie Williams. Williams gave McDonnell's daughter Cailin $15,000 to help pay for her Executive Mansion wedding reception in 2011.

Twelve percent felt it's a big deal, 44 percent say it's “just politics,” and 42 percent hadn't heard enough about it.
