RICHMOND, VA—Following the Boston bombings, officials aren't taking any chances at Richmond International Raceway (RIR) this weekend.

Canine units from across a handful of jurisdictions are teaming up to sniff out anything suspicious that might be at Richmond International Raceway, ahead of the upcoming NASCAR race.

“You will see a significant increase in the number of uniformed officers out here, as well as there will be other officers that you don't know exactly who they are,” said Linda Toney with the Henrico County Police Department.

Undercover police, added surveillance and earlier and more frequent EOD checks are just some of the ways police are increasing security in response to the Boston bombings.

“This is a large venue, a large number of people, so we want to make sure everyone is safe,” said Toney.

Henrico County Police say their bomb squad started inspecting the track site Monday.

Even with tighter security, police asking fans to be on the lookout and to report anything suspicious.
