Group Renovates Homes Of The Elderly In Richmond

Richmond, VA—One local group is
planning to revamp to the city neighborhood one home at a time.

Since she moved in 43
years ago, Margaret Gillespie's home had fallen into disrepair. The home had
broken steps a damaged porch and other problems.

A team from the non
profit Rebuilding Together of Richmond
renovated Gillespie's home from the inside out. They revealed the finished
product last week. The homeowner is grateful for the time and effort they put
into the renovation.

“I could've never
done the sink, I could've never put the cabinets in, I could've never done the
floors. I just didn't have that kind of money.”

Rebuilding Together of
Richmond reaches out to low income, elderly and disabled homeowners, all in an
effort to make their homes safer. They repaired broken basement window and
replaced railing and a missing back door at Gillespie's home.

“It was such a
hazard for me, I would come out of the kitchen and anybody could've been
standing there.”

1500 volunteers will get
to work early Saturday morning, getting their hands dirty to repair more than
40 homes in the Fulton
