CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (AP) – A national professor organization criticizes the University of Virginia's governing board – and particularly Rector Helen Dragas – in a new report on last summer's ouster attempt on the school's president.

In a report released Thursday, the American Association of University Professors called the attempt to oust President Teresa Sullivan a “crude exercise of naked power.” The group said its investigation found no reasoning for the move.

Dragas orchestrated last summer's firing of Sullivan, igniting a firestorm of protests by faculty, students, alumni and the public. The Board of Visitors later reinstated Sullivan.

Media outlets report the group met with Sullivan and other leaders and reviewed hundreds of pages of documents. It will present its report at the association's annual meeting in June.

Dragas refused to answer the group's questions.
