Richmond, VA-Citizens of a Richmond neighborhood are unsettled, after two attempted robberies which turned violent on Wednesday evening.

The first incident happened around 9:30 p.m., in the 1700 block of Stockton Street, and the second attempted robbery took place less than two hours later about a mile away in the 3900 block of Stockton Street.

In the first incident, police say a suspect approached a man walking down the street, and demanded money. The victim ran off, and the would-be robber fired his gun at him several times, but missed.

At about 11 p.m., another man was approached as he walked home, and this time, the suspect pointed a gun at his face as he ordered the man to give him money.

When the victim said he didn't have any money, the suspect reportedly said, “You know what I have to do,” and then shot him in the thigh.

A citizen of the area told 8News that these types of incidents are the reason they don't come outside after dark, adding “I do not trust the community.”

Police have not confirmed if the incidents are related, although they have several similarities.

There was a neighborhood watch association in place in this area, but when we investigated, we found out that it no longer exists. Residents say that they want to see the association in action again, but for now, they are relying on police to keep them safe.
