NORFOLK, Va. (AP) – The USS Barry is deploying to Europe to protect the continent from ballistic missiles.
The guided-missile destroyer is scheduled to leave Naval Station Norfolk on Thursday. The deployment comes amid an uncertain budgetary environment that could affect the length of the ship's deployment as well as the number of port visits it makes.
During its last deployment in July 2011, the Barry launched 55 Tomahawk cruise missiles in support of establishing a no-fly zone over Libya.
