New Kent, VA—Exclusive video shot minutes after a high-speed chase on Interstate 64 shows police apprehending a female suspect who was traveling in a stolen car.

An 8News viewer sent us the video Tuesday, saying it was “like a scene from the game Grand Theft Auto.” He reported that Virginia State Troopers chased a vehicle on Interstate 64 near New Kent, at times weaving in and out of traffic to keep up with the car.

The video shows officers talking a person into custody from the car, which was resting, overturned,  at an angle on the side of the roadway.

Sgt. Thomas Molnar of the Virginia State Police responded to the incident, and confirmed that police pursued a 2008 Maxima Versa for about 10 minutes, at times reaching speeds of 100 miles per hour. Sgt. Molnar said the vehicle then ran off the side of the road and overturned.

The incident began when a trooper responded to a call about a suspicious vehicle on Interstate 64 westbound at the 216 mile marker. When the officer located the vehicle, he found a female suspect asleep in the car. As he attempted to obtain her information, she suddenly drove away, initiating the pursuit.

The 39-year-old suspect was arrested and taken into custody. She was transported to VCU Medical Center for minor injuries incurred when her vehicle crashed.

The car she was driving was reported stolen from Newport News. Charges are pending, as police continue their investigation of this incident.
