Man Arrested For Bringing Knife Into Richmond Elem. School

School student was arrested Wednesday, after
bringing a hunting knife inside the school during a spelling bee.

Parents told 8News that they noticed the man walk into Clark Springs
Elementary School with
the weapon strapped to his waist. They say the man, whose child apparently
attends the school, was allowed to stay inside the school for the duration of a
spelling bee being held there.

8News has learned that the man was arrested and charged with bringing a
weapon onto school grounds, a misdemeanor.

School officials confirm the incident, but provided no other details until
after 4:00 p.m. Wednesday afternoon.

Clark Springs Elementary School Principal sent the following letter to

“The purpose of this letter is to inform you of an incident that
occurred during our School-Wide Spelling Bee today. During the assembly, a
weapon was confiscated from one of our parents.  The building
administrators followed appropriate safety and security protocol by immediately
contacting Safety and Security personnel and the Richmond Police
Department.   It is believed that at no time was the safety of our
students and staff compromised.  A meeting was held with the staff to
inform them of the incident and to review our school safety and security

I wish to thank those parents who were vigilant in reporting their concerns
to the school administration. Please be assured that we will continue to follow
safety protocol to ensure that Clark Springs maintains  a safe and
nurturing learning environment.   Additional safety and security
personnel will be available at the school. Communication with the Richmond
Police Department is still ongoing. Please contact the school administration at
