HENRICO, VA—The Henrico County School Board approved a redistricting plan Thursday that combined elements from previously proposed plans.
With the new plan approved, parents now know where their children will attend elementary school starting in the fall of 2013.
Combining two previously proposed plans, the Henrico County School Board approved a new plan Thursday night, creating brand new elementary school boundaries.
The Board says the new plan resolves most concerns. Hundreds of parents voiced concerns over plans previously proposed by the school board.
The new plan takes everything south of Broad Street on option one and everything north of Broad Street on option two and combines them.
“It [the plan] really reflects studies that have been looked at over the last several months,” Henrico County School Board member John Montgomery said.
The School Board created the third proposal Thursday afternoon, just before the vote.
Under the plan, every elementary school will be under capacity expect Ridge Elementary, which remained unchanged.
“Three Chopt Elementary School is near Ridge is under capacity, so we're going to study further to see if there's some way we can benefit Ridge by looking at a school that's not full,” Henrico County Public Schools Assistant superintendent Dr. Patrick Kinlaw said.
There were more than a dozen proposals on the table before Thursday's vote.
The new plan goes into effect next fall.
