Virginia State Police are investigating after a Waverly police officer shot a suspect early Thursday.
Waverly Police responded to a domestic dispute on New Street just after midnight but were unable to locate the male suspect. Then, around 1:30 a.m., officers were called to the same address and located the male subject.
State Police officials said a struggle ensued when officers tried to arrest the man. An officer then shot the suspect inside the home.
It's unclear if the suspect had a weapon. State Police officials said the suspect was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries.
Neither the officer nor the suspect's identities have been released.
