VA—Retailers are offering deep
discounts on a variety of products and services on Black Friday, and many
people in our area are already preparing for marathon shopping sessions.
Several tents were erected outside of the Best Buy store in
Short Pump Tuesday afternoon; when 8News asked some people how long they'd been
camped out, the answer was surprising.
“I got here last night [Monday] at 8 PM,” said Zach Stigall.
Others arrived early in the morning on Tuesday, and perched
on sleeping bags and blankets outside the store as they waited for the sales to
begin. Black Friday shopper Erin Williams told 8News she arrived at 2:00 AM.
When asked why they were waiting so early for the sales, shoppers
offered various reasons, chief among them the need to snag key sale items
“To get a flat screen TV, you have to get out early to claim
your item,” explained Erin.
Zach pointed to savings as his chief motivator. “I save
easily[…]about a thousand dollars getting all my items on this day.”
The long hours of waiting can be boring, and some shoppers
get tired. But Zach has found a few ways to distract himself: “Play cards, read
a book, or make friends.”
