Explosions occurred outside two Stafford homes and an explosion occurred inside a Fredericksburg residence Tuesday morning.

The first incident occurred early Tuesday. Stafford County Deputies responded to a home in the Kings Grant Subdivision at 4:33a.m.

Residents told police they initially believed the noise was gunshot. A preliminary investigation by police discovered a homemade incendiary device that had been placed or thrown outside of the residence.

None of the home's occupants were injured in the incident, and the home sustained minor damage from the explosion.

A little more than one hour later at 5:53 a.m., an explosion was reported outside a second home. Another homemade explosive device was found near the rear of the home, located in the County Ridge Subdivision. The property sustained major damage, but there were no injuries.

Police believe that both of these incidents are related to an explosion inside a home in the 3100 block of Normandy Avenue in Fredericksburg Tuesday morning. One woman was inside the home when a homemade incendiary device exploded, causing significant damage to the interior of the home.

After an investigation, police determined that the incendiary device was thrown or placed inside the home and subsequently detonated. Police and bomb detection dogs from the Virginia State Police did not find any additional explosives in the home.

All of these incidents remain under investigation. Anyone with information about these explosions is asked to contact the Fredericksburg Police Department at 540-373-3122 or the Stafford County Sheriff's Office at 540‐658‐4400.
