Chesapeake Educator Named Virginia Teacher of The Year

RICHMOND, Va. (AP) – A sixth-grade English teacher has been named Virginia's teacher of the year for 2013.

Julie Grimes of the Virginia Department of Education said Kathryn B. Galford received the honor Friday night at an event in Richmond. Galford teaches at Greenbrier Middle School in Chesapeake. Galford, who had been one of eight regional teachers of the year, will go on to represent Virginia in the national teacher of the year program. The national honoree will be announced next spring at the White House.

Grimes said the state award includes a classroom technology package and educational opportunities for the honoree.
